Results are in- I am editing our original post below to show how amazing our small community is. We don’t even have pictures of the donations made to Life*Spin, but the family that was sponsored got everything and more from their wish lists. The major donations (and pictures below) were made to the London Abused Women’s Centre (you can read more about both of these great institutions below). Mainly with the help of our Monday night quiz teams, we raised almost $700 in cash, another $300+ in gift cards, and approximately $500 in goods- pretty amazing I would say! As always, your generosity is astounding. I know the charities appreciate it, but it means so much to our staff at The Mo, and Amey thanks you for making it easy on her- except the shopping in December part, that is a little more difficult! There is still time to drop off personal items- shampoos, body washes, toothbrushes/toothpaste, dish soap, laundry soap, gas cards, grocery gift cards etc…we will be dropping all of that off early in January. Thank you so much once again, all the best for this holiday season and a Happy New Year to all- you made quite a few Christmases better!
We have had some great success in recent years acting as a conduit between people in need and our great staff and patrons. This year we have decided, because of your generosity, to take on a little bit more. From helping the London Food Bank to Aberdeen PS, mittens to cleaning products, you have been stellar in your giving. The staff, the quizzers, the regulars, and the people that just pop by every once in a while… you have made it easy for us to meet goals and help others during the holidays. Amey as always is the driving force behind our holiday giving.
This year, once again, we will be taking on one of the hundreds of families that have asked Life*Spin for help and support at this time of the year. You can also ‘adopt’ your own family of course, and we encourage you to do so, you can click to get more information as to who/what Life*Spin is…we think it is an organization that does great things close to home and we like that they empower low income earners. We will have a list up at the bar, and if you have an interest in helping us with one of these families, you can also email me directly at email@example.com and I will pass along their requests. Last year, we had huge support and raised over $800 in gift cards and over $700 in goods as well. Peter Janes was responsible for a lot of that as he donated $500 in PC gift cards! Our friend Denis McCully also made a generous donation of $250. Did I mention how great our people are?
As November was all about shining the light on women’s abuse, we thought that we could also help out the women of the LAWC. Last year, we set a goal of collecting 150 personal items…shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste…you get the idea…but were blown away when we hit the 650 mark and kept on going- special thanks to Doug and Aileen who dropped bags and bags of items. You can see the list in the PDF below. The centre offers advocacy, counselling and support services and we think at this time of year, they are easy to keep in our thoughts. There will be a box set up at the restaurant and when that starts to overflow, we will fill my Focus- with the seats down! This year, we will also be trying to help out their Christmas Room. So not only personal items as above, but also gifts. The Centre invites their women and children into this room to choose a gift…what they don’t seem to get enough of, and what we are looking for, would be gifts for the women and the older children. For the ladies- books, robes, PJs, winter clothes and the like. For children 10+, books, board games, educational toys, art supplies and the like.
If you have any questions, please let us know and we will do our best to respond in a timely manner- best bet, firstname.lastname@example.org. If you feel like donating, we are open at 11am everyday and we are an easy drop off point! If you feel like going straight to the charities involved, please do so! The more the merrier!
Thank you for being so great every time we put out an appeal like this. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Bodhi Day, Pancha Ganapati, Kwanzaa, Yule, Festivus, or just the best of the season to you!
