Wine List

2763511_d395_625x1000The wine list has been an ever-evolving one.  When we first opened in 2009, people were surprised that one, our wine did not come from a box (not that there is anything wrong with that), and two, that we actually had glassware and not plastic (most of the time, there is something wrong with this!).  Our discerning clientele has steadily wanted more from us; more varietals, more choice, more price points; and we have responded.  16 wines available by the glass, 60 by the bottle- not bad for a little, tiny ‘beer’ restaurant…although…once again listening to our patrons, we are in the process of selling off our cellar and offering more wines by the glass as it seems like you want more styles and more change. We will also be offering BYOW every night of the week. We offer a 6oz or 9oz pours.

A few important notes!  The AGCO, our licensing agency, allows for you to take home the rest.  This is a great initiative by the government to allow you to buy a bottle of wine, and instead of forcing yourself to finish it or leave the extra, we can recork it and allow you to take it home with you.  You must let your server know however as it does need to be recorked by our staff.  Responsible service at its finest.

On Wednesdays, The Morrissey House becomes The Morrissey (Wine)House!  Every Wednesday is #winesday, and we offer $1.50 off every glass of wine we pour, and $6 off each bottle on our list (HST incl).  This is a great opportunity for you to try out a wine you have not tried before or a totally new varietal.  All of our wines have been taste-tested by staff and management alike and are on our list because they are good, not just because we know the sales rep, so you can trust us to have good wines and at great value as well.  #winesday is all day, just in case you need a glass at lunch. (Sangrias are not on sale on Wednesdays)  If you also like single malts, they are also now $1.50 off per ounce.

Every night after 5pm, we also offer BYOW- Bring Your Own Wine.  It is kind of odd how this is such a hard sell in Ontario!  We do charge a corkage fee but it is also a great initiative that not enough people know about.  If you lived in Quebec or Australia, it is a part of the social fabric, but many Ontarians do not even know it exists or understand the concept. You can bring in your own 750ml bottle of commercially made wine (the LCBO still has to make their money right?)- we chill, open, supply the glassware, even decant if you need that.  This allows you to bring in a great bottle of wine, or even just your favourite, instead of trying something new on our list that you might not know or might not want to spend money on trying one out.   The corkage fee ranges between $5 and $20, but watch us for special events/nights where we have no corkage fee!  The best way to know when that is is by following us on Twitter.   For all of the rules surrounding BYOW please see this post.
